My second great grandfather was a residential school survivor, and an alcoholic, abusive womanizer. Much of our residual family trauma can be traced back to him. He also ran a dogsled and would transport goods to remote communities. Here, I imagine him freed from his demons under the beauty of the northern lights, which represent the spirits of our ancestors. Nature can help us reconnect and heal us and here I gift my great grandfather healing and freedom from his traumas.
