A tree grows out from the decaying stump of another tree. When I looked back at my ancestors I felt like some of them were giants (one of them literally WAS a giant, or the tallest man in the world at the time). It felt like here I am, this little tree, growing out from where my ancestors planted me.
It's also important to remember that we are ancestors too. One day we will be gone and it is our duty to ensure that our descendants are planted in a good world.
The twelfth and final painting in my collection, Otipemisewak. Otipemisewak means 'the people who own themselves'.
