A solitary figure walks through a windswept field towards a tree in the far distance. This is the flat prairie of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan.

As Metis people, we don't really have land to go back to. We're lucky enough to have this postage stamp sized piece of land, surrounded entirely by a farmer's field. My mom grew up a stones throw from here and my ancestors, including my Great Grampa Zach are buried in the graveyard underneath this tree and one of my other Great Grandfathers donated this land to be a graveyard. That's my mom walking through the field, returning home.
